OPENING UP AN INSTITUTION FROM AN ELEVATED PLATZ

A necessary opportunity: Weimar is the birthplace of Bauhaus. Six of the fourteen years of its brief existence were during the Weimar period. At the end it was forced out. Only Germany's history during the twentieth century can explain why it was not until 1995 that a museum was set up in the museologically rich town of Weimar. In 2010, thanks to a special funding program run by the German Government and the State of Thuringia, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar foundation is able to set up a New Bauhaus Museum in Weimar.
The Bauhaus Forum: the proposal is the result of merging the spatial consideration and the layout of the building in the city, answering to a complex context. The main goal of this work is to create a Bauhaus Forum in an elevated Platz as the main core of the new Museum, opening up the institution to the city and creating a shared space (private-public) in order to establish an urban relation with the surroundings.
